FuelCast shows nearby fuel stations and their prices, price history and the direction of prices when the forecast has passed a backtest. The app works without an account.
Location
When you allow location access, FuelCast uses your device’s location to find the nearest fuel stations and show how far they are. The app asks for permission on first launch unless you choose a city yourself. While permission is granted, the location is refreshed when you open the app or return to it. FuelCast only uses location while the app is in use (“While Using the App”); it never requests background location access.
Your coordinates are sent to our price server with each station search. They are used for that search only and are not stored or logged. You can choose a city manually instead and withdraw location permission at any time in the iPhone Settings.
In the United States, nearby stations are looked up from Google Places (Google LLC): our server forwards the search coordinates and radius to Google, but not your IP address or any identifier of you or your device.
Fill up on the way (route search)
When you search for stations along a trip, the start and destination coordinates are sent to our price server for that search and are not stored. If you type a destination name, our server looks up its location in OpenStreetMap’s Nominatim service (OpenStreetMap Foundation); only the search text is passed on, not your IP address or location. The result is cached on our server for up to 30 days without any link to you. Your last destination is stored only on your device.
Map
The station map loads map tiles from OpenFreeMap (tiles.openfreemap.org) only when you open the map view. As with any web request, that server sees your IP address and which map area is loaded; no other data about you is sent. Station markers and your location dot are drawn on your device.
Price alerts
If you turn on price alerts, your alert settings (country, fuel, radius, alert rule and the last known location or chosen city) are stored only on your device. The app checks prices periodically in the background by sending that saved location to our price server in the same way as a normal search; it does not take a new location fix in the background. Notifications are created locally on your device: no push service is used and no device token is sent to us.
Price reports
If you report a station’s price, your location at the time of the report is used to check that you are near the station. We store the station, the fuel, the price, the time of the report and your distance to the station (not your coordinates). The reporter identifier and IP address are stored only as a salted hash (SHA-256), which is used to prevent abuse and overly frequent reports. The original identifier or IP address cannot be recovered from the hash.
FuelCast Pro subscription
The Pro subscription is purchased and managed through Apple’s App Store. Apple processes the payment; we do not receive your payment details, name or Apple Account. The app checks whether a subscription is active on your device through Apple’s StoreKit. You can manage or cancel the subscription in your App Store account settings.
Data sources
Prices come from open data published by public authorities and statistics agencies, from other licensed price sources and from price reports by users. Station locations also come from OpenStreetMap (© OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL). The source of each price is shown in the app. Forecasts are model estimates, not guaranteed prices.
No advertising or tracking
The app has no login, no advertising, no third-party analytics and no tracking technologies. Settings, favourites and alert settings are stored only on your device, and you can delete them in the app settings.
Our website (fuelcast-app.vercel.app) uses Vercel Web Analytics to count page views. It uses no cookies and stores no personal identifiers; the data is aggregated. The app itself contains no analytics.
Server and logs
The price server is located in the EU (Germany). Requests from the web version are relayed by Vercel; hosting providers may process IP addresses in technical logs for a short time. Our own price service does not log user-specific searches or locations.
Your rights and contact
You can request information about the processing and ask for data to be deleted. Because a price report is not linked to a name or contact details, we cannot connect a report to you without your device’s reporter identifier. Privacy questions: info@raslak.works
